Bellport
Yesterday, we ventured out to Bellport, which is essentially a quaint little secret tucked away on Long Island’s South Shore. Dotted with colonial homes complete with white picket fences, a charming downtown area, and a small marina where town residents can hop on a quick ferry ride over to Ho-Hum Beach (which is located on Fire Island), Bellport is reminiscent of a quintessential New England seaside town. It’s the antithesis of the Hamptons which is known for its’ congested traffic, high end shops and restaurants, and its’ well-known who’s who scene. Leave your designer clothes at home if you’re planning a trip to Bellport any time soon. This town is very low-key, relaxed and unpretentious. We spent the afternoon at the waterfront park (which also houses a band shell for summer concerts), window shopping in town, and sampling ice cream at Carla Marla’s ice cream parlor. Of course, I had to pop into at least one store (thank God my mom was with me to occupy my restless boys) so I quickly perused the clothes and skin care line at Seilenna while waiting for my coffee. Yes! They serve coffee and pastries too! Genius, right?
