Biking on the Beach

One of my favorite things about Hilton Head is biking on the beach which is something we can’t do here in New York.  The sand is much flatter down in HHI so it’s perfect for either walking by the water with sneakers (which my husband and I did every morning at sunrise….the best way to start your day fyi) or taking a spin on a beach cruiser.  The only thing I’ll warn you about is that it’s great when the wind is at your back but once you turn around and bike against the wind, it’s a whole other story.  My daughter and I biked pretty far one afternoon when we decided to follow a family of dolphins.  The problem was once we were tired and hungry and had to turn around.  Let’s just say by the end of our excursion, our legs were burning and we definitely hobbled back to our condo.  That experience didn’t discourage me though.  There’s something so therapeutic about riding bikes especially by the water’s edge.  I’ve already decided that I’d like a beach cruiser (how cute is this one?) for my birthday since we have a bike path in town that leads directly down to the beach.  I can’t wait for the weather to warm up so I can go riding with my daughter and catch a sunset over the Great South Bay.

PS…please pardon my very messy hair!  I didn’t blow dry my hair once when we were away.  It was just wash and go and I used this sea salt spray which smells so good!
