Although I detest the winter and anything to do with being cold, the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year. I love the anticipation…picking out a tree, decorating the house, buying gifts (who doesn’t love any excuse to shop?), and all the festivities.  Of course, when it comes to the plethora of parties, the first thing that comes to mind is, what will I wear?  Whenever I’m dressing up, I usually ask myself if it’s something I’ll wear again.  So, I try to choose pieces that are both practical and stylish because why bother purchasing items you only plan on wearing once?  A must have winter staple is a black cashmere turtleneck.  It will go with everything, is perpetually chic, and is incredibly warm….a total no-brainer.  Two other must have staples: black opaque tights and black booties.  I tend to favor booties over heels because they’re way more comfortable and easier to pound the pavement when you’re running from one place to the next.  Having said that, style must enter the equation at some point so a festive gold jacquard skirt is a foolproof  way to add some holiday charm to any ensemble.  I scored this skirt on major sale last year at Loft for a fraction of the original price along with a back wool mini with a hint of shimmer.  Both skirts are ideal pieces for this time of year because all I need are a cozy sweater or a silk blouse and I’m good to go for an easy and effortless holiday look.
