A few weeks ago, I came home from the store to discover a lake in our kitchen and water gushing through the ceiling into our basement.  After my initial shock and dismay (there was a problem with the water system hooked up to our refrigerator), my husband and I along with the help of my parents in law were able to clean up the mess and realized the damage wasn’t nearly as bad as we had anticipated.  In fact, after we dry vacuumed everything up and had the dehumidifiers running non-stop, the only things that were permanently destroyed were our tv and several bins of baseball cards belonging to my boys.  In the weeks since, it’s compelled me to gather up the old toys and books and donate them to charity and prioritize what the kids need versus what they think they need.  I’m always of the mantra “less is more” (except when it comes to shoes and bags of course) so I’m really trying to streamline what we keep so their updated space is clutter free, cheerful and comfortable.  I plan on painting the room a light blue, adding a colorful throw rug (I love Ikea’s selection) and some fun prints, some more shelves and lots of storage bins to keep everything organized and easy to clean up.  And how cute is this play tent?  I think my four year old son would spend hours in here especially with the colder months right around the corner.  As for replacing the tv, I’m thinking I want to keep it an electronic free zone.  Although I now have to share our family room tv with the kids, it’s been a blessing in disguise because it promotes more time spent together as a family which is the thing I treasure most.
