Every year, my brother and sister in law host Thanksgiving and it’s a family tradition I treasure each November. I love taking the scenic drive upstate, usually with a pie on my lap, the radio playing, and all of us talking (sometimes over each other but hey…that’s the way it goes with a family of six). Some people might moan and gran about a two hour ride up and then back but I look at it as quality time with my kids and my husband….and since I’m not the one driving, I can just chill out and relax. I love arriving at their home because we’re always greeted with hugs and kisses and the wonderful smells wafting from the kitchen plus a much needed glass of wine (typically, the last 30 minutes of our journey involves someone crying and my husband and I threatening to pull the car over #momlife). Thanksgiving is one of my all time favorite meals…turkey, gravy, stuffing, cranberries, potatoes, and cornbread followed up with apple pie and my sister in law’s pumpkin cheesecake. And let’s not forget about the left-0vers (remember that Friends episode about Ross’s left-over Thanksgiving sandwich with the “moist maker” in the middle? If you haven’t seen it, you need to watch it asap. Hilarious!). So, even though I don’t host Thanksgiving dinner, I always take note of my sister in law’s beautiful tablescape each time which she decorates with rich tones and thoughtful accents. This year, instead of the usual flowers or wine, I’d like to bring a more personal hostess gift…something that she can use each Thanksgiving that is both pretty and functional. I love these pumpkin salt and pepper shakers, this wood cake stand and this three tier dessert stand in particular. Do you typically host Thanksgiving dinner? If so, what are your favorite ways to decorate your table?
