Let it Grow
This past weekend, we finally got around to planting our vegetable garden. It’s one of my favorite traditions….taking the annual trip to the nursery, choosing the various vegetables and herbs and wandering around browsing at the wide selection of flowers and outside decor. Typically, we usually end up with basil, parsley, lettuce and tomatoes. However, this year, the kids convinced me to branch out so we added corn, cucumbers, carrots and strawberries to the mix. Although the weather wasn’t ideal (we’ve had an exceptionally chilly spring), we layered up and got our hands dirty. To me, there’s something so therapeutic about being outside in my garden…it’s where I am able to process my thoughts and often times, find an inner sense of peace. Having said that, the other day wasn’t exactly serene with the kids (I have three boys after all) but it was fun and rewarding. I can’t wait to watch our little garden grow…it’s such a satisfying feeling to pick your own produce and come up with different creations each night….one more thing to look forward to if the temperatures ever warm up!

Wonderful! I loved having my own garden a couple summers ago. Hopefully next summer I’ll be able to get back into. I love that you involve your kiddos 🙂 Looking forward to similar activities with my girls.

Great. When I was younger, we always had some fresh vegetables and strawberries from our garden and it is the best ! =)

How fun!!! I have always wanted to have a vegetable garden, but we keep winding up in apartments haha. So jealous that you will have such amazing fresh produce. What a great thing to show/teach your children 🙂 Will definitely do the same one day.

How fun is that?! We grew peppers last summer and I can’t wait to plant something new this summer! I don’t know if I am brave enough for fruits though! Keep us updated on the garden’s progress 🙂

Thanks Maggie. I highly recommend strawberries. They’re so easy to grow and they taste so fresh and delicious when you pick them from your own garden 🙂

this is awesome! Unfortunately, I don’t/won’t have a yard or even a balcony/patio anytime soon. So I’ll just have to settle for a small herb garden on the windowsill. What a great thing to do with your children!

Windowsills are perfect for growing herbs! That’s what I used to do when we lived in an apartment. There’s nothing better than plucking your very own fresh basil and parsley when you’re cooking!

This is adorable and such a great idea! My older niece (4.5y loves helping my Mom in the garden…sadly we only have concrete here in NYC, but my parents still live in the suburbs).
Also, I just responded to your comment on my Cobalt + Mint post with a link to the most amazing scarf in the entire world that is worth every penny…it is truly a blanket and as I went to get you the link I totally just bought another color…oops! 🙂

Thank you so much Kendall! I just checked out the scarf. Looks so cozy! I love the gray….it’ll be the perfect Mother’s Day gift (for me, that is!). My own mom is going to Rome….lucky lady:)
