One of my favorite things to do is entertain.  I love hosting gatherings for our loved ones whether it is a family birthday party for one of our children or an intimate dinner party with a few couples.  I truly enjoy the whole preparation process…the invitations, the cooking, setting the table and last but certainly not least, decorating the powder room.  When I am a guest in someone’s home, I appreciate the details…lovely soaps, soft hand towels, a pleasantly scented candle and fresh flowers.  To me, that says that your host or hostess has taken the time to consider your needs and comfort.  It’s a thoughtful gesture that never goes unnoticed (well, at least us women treasure the little things….I think my husband is happy with good food and a game on somewhere).   Here is my list for the ideal powder room:
1. Good Hand Soap: I’m not saying you should use these every day so buy special ones on sale and save them for company.
2. A Pretty Tray: I like the idea of a tray because it can neatly hold all the essentials.  Unfortunately I have a pedestal sink in my guest bathroom but in my next home, I’m hoping for more counter space!
3. Fresh Flowers: The ones I featured are fake (gasp) but I do prefer fresh.  Just a few flowers in a small, simple vase makes a big impact.
4. Scented Candle: I love lit candles in a powder room.  It’s inviting and creates a welcoming atmosphere.
5. A Small Mirror: A mirror is a must!  Everyone checks themselves out in the mirror (for a quick touch up or just to make sure you don’t have spinach in your teeth).
6. Quality Hand Towels: I always notice a good towel.  No one wants to wipe their hands off on a cheap, scratchy towel (I save those for the kids)!
7. A Wire Basket: These are extremely useful for storing extra toilet paper (so your guests aren’t rummaging through your cabinets) or additional hand towels.
8. Room Spray: I think this one is self explanatory but should always be on hand!
