This past weekend was one of the best we’ve experienced in a while.  It was so refreshing to get a much needed break from the routine and spend time together as a family and a couple.  Friday night, we headed out to Greenport with friends and enjoyed an amazing dinner (I highly recommend Noah’s if you’re ever out on Long Island’s north fork…be sure to order the mushroom risotto and the fries with goat cheese ranch…sooo good).  Saturday, we ventured into the city to see the New York City Ballet’s version of the Nutcracker.   I’m probably a tad biased but in my opinion, this is the Nutcracker performance you want to see.  There’s nothing quite like the majestic New York State Theatre in Lincoln Center.  Aside from the impressive setting, the costumes, sets and the sheer talent of these dancers makes the whole experience quite unforgettable. (If you’re obsessed with ballet like me, you’ll enjoy this documentary produced by Sarah Jessica Parker…an eye opening look at what goes into being a professional ballet dancer.)  Sunday, we decided to pull the Christmas decorations out of the attic…the kids get so excited to decorate their tree in our family room with all the ornaments they’ve made through the years.  It’s the ideal compromise….they get to put their personal stamp on the holiday decor in our den and I get to have my “fancy tree” in our living room that only I decorate (when they’re at school of course!). My husband thinks I’m nuts but hey…everyone’s happy so I’m rolling with it.

All these traditions definitely got me into the Christmas spirit this weekend so this festive, red toggle coat was the perfect piece to ring in the holiday season.  What I love about this coat is that it’s not too heavy so when I’m driving or running in and out of stores, I never over heat.  I scored it on major sale at Target a few years ago but I found similar styles here and here…so, whether you’re looking to treat yourself or you’re on the hunt for a fun, cheerful coat as a gift for that special someone, you can never go wrong with a classic toggle coat.
