NYFW Recap: Part One

Well, it’s definitely been a whirlwind of a week!  Between my kids being on a school break and running in and out of the city five separate times in seven days, I’m sooo happy to be sitting in front of my computer with a cup of green tea and nowhere to be.  I’m really excited to share my adventures with you as I navigated through my first official NYFW.  And what better place to start with than the Sachin and Babi FW 2016 presentation?  The first word that comes to mind is exquisite.  It was held in a beautiful townhouse downtown complete with a dramatic entryway (where a celloist was playing), a majestic staircase that led to a balcony overlooking the entire venue, and embellished, ornate accents throughout the home.  The models were standing and sitting in different rooms so it seemed like a much more organic experience than watching a traditional runway show.

I was certainly feeling a “Spanish Flare” theme from the tiered ruffled maxi skirts to the bolero jackets to the bold floral prints.  It was hard to pick a favorite piece but if I had to pinpoint one in particular it was a black floral cocktail dress with sheer sleeves (#obsessed)  I basically want every piece in this collection….a girl can dream, right?  The husband and wife team, Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia, were on hand to greet everyone and graciously answer questions about their designs.  Between this elegant collection, the venue, and the overall atmosphere, it was a great way to kick off fashion week and was by far, my favorite experience at NYFW.

Although this collection will not be available for several months, with spring (hopefully) right around the corner, I’m sharing some Sachin and Babi  pieces that I’m currently coveting that you can scoop up immediately!

Here’s what I wore to the presentation: these MIH jeans which were a definite steal (they’re a little long…I’m 5″4 so I had to alter them), this pea coat from Topshop (sold out but here’s a similar style), these wedge booties (similar) and this Milly tote (similar here).  The coat, boots and bag were my go-to staples all week!
