Our Visit to Magnolia Market at the Silos

Back in May, my daughter and I planned a four day trip down to Dallas to look at a few schools. Of course, I couldn’t visit Dallas without driving down to Waco for a much anticipated day trip to Magnolia Market at the Silos. In case you weren’t aware, I’m a huge fan of Chip and Jojo. I love their easy, approachable style, their admirable work ethic, and their sweet family. I think their greatest appeal is their relatability and their playful, down to earth manner. Oh, and they sell the best candles! (This one is my absolute favorite.) So, after we spent the first two days in Dallas, we drove 95 miles south to take a tour of Baylor University and spend an afternoon at the Silos.

The first thing we did was pop into the Magnolia store which was merchandised exactly how I imagined. Everything had Joanna’s stamp on it from candles to faux florals, vases, rugs, pillows, throws, and their signature Waco tee shirts. The store was bursting with customers but it was very roomy and airy and the lines moved smoothly. Our sales associate was warm and friendly and chatted with us about Baylor. I wanted one of everything but I controlled myself (ha ha) and picked up a few candles and some tee shirts. As I mentioned, Magnolia candles are my favorite hands down. I love all the scents, the beautiful jar, and the wood wick. They make the best gifts.

Next, we ventured outside where there is an expansive green lawn in the middle and food trucks lined up along the side. There is something for everyone from pizza, tacos, burgers, hot dogs, and brisket. You name it. They have it. We opted for brisket tacos and sweet teas and found a picnic table to enjoy our lunch. We ended up chatting with a group of women who were spending the weekend in Waco. It was a bit windy and we all had a good laugh when everyone’s food almost blew away!

After lunch, we drove over to Baylor which is a mere five minutes away. We took a guided tour which lasted longer than we expected. Baylor is huge! I had no idea. Even though my daughter opted not to apply (it was just too big for her), it’s a lovely campus and there is a ton of school spirit. I can see why people are drawn to it.

We decided we would return to the Silos after our tour to sample some sweets from their bakery. Everything looked so tempting but we finally settled on a classic cupcake (chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream frosting), a red velvet cupcake, and a chocolate chip cookie (which we split later that night). We savored our treats on the patio outside at a bistro table with an umbrella, which were grateful for because Texas in May is very hot!

The sales associate had told us about Joanna’s original shop across town, known as The Little Shop on Bosque, which is now their outlet store. Since we had made a purchase at Magnolia Market, we were eligible for a discount. So, after we polished off our cupcakes, we hopped back in the car and drove across town. The original shop was much smaller but very charming and chock full of marked down goodies. I scooped up a creamer and sugar bowl and my daughter picked up some more tee shirts. I almost bought a beautiful blue rug for our bedroom but there was no way I was able to fly back home with it so sadly, I declined. I still think about that rug….

All in all, it was well worth the almost two hour trek down to Waco. If my daughter ends up going to school in Dallas, I will definitely return. I’m dying to try out their restaurant, Magnolia Table and pop into the Seed and Supply shop which we didn’t get a chance to visit.

Of course, there’s always Hearth and Hand at Target, Chip and Joanna’s budget friendly alternative. Scroll below to see some of my favorite items from their collection.
