Smooth Sailing

A billowy printed top is definitely not something I would typically wear.  I tend to gravitate more towards structured pieces in neutral palettes (safe, yes, but always versatile and timeless).  However, I was in Target a few weeks ago and the moment I spotted this royal blue sailboat top, I knew I had to have it.  We have had a long, dreary winter here in New York so this cheerful blouse instantly conjured up images of lazy summer afternoons complete with toes in the sand, a cold margarita in my hand and the sound and smell of the ocean.  What I love about this piece is that I can pair it down with white denim shorts and flip flops or dress it up with skinny ankle jeans and heels.  As a busy mom of four, I appreciate items that can take me from day to night with minimal adjustments.  Our dear friends just invited us to their lovely home in Fire Island for the first weekend in May (our first get away in a while without the kids!) and I cannot wait to wear this top while we take the ferry over to an island where everything seems to magically slow down and the only thing we need to fret about is where we’ll go for happy hour.  Counting the days…
